A heartbreaking image that haunted millions: A mother cat quietly lay beside her kitten’s body after a traffic accident

Residents of Chengjian Avenue in Xi’an, China, are sharing a heartbreaking story: a mother cat is wailing and screaming beside the corpses of her two kittens, just a few days old. What is particularly disturbing is the gruesome nature of their deaths: one kitten was severed in half, leaving only its head, while the other had its belly cut open, exposing its internal organs.

In recent days, images of a mother cat clinging to and crying heartbreakingly beside the bodies of her two kittens, who had been brutally murdered, have been circulating online.

Ms. Duong (68 years old), who has lived in the area for over 10 years, said that she usually puts stray dogs and cats in cardboard boxes or makeshift cages in the wasteland to take care of them.

However, on June 14th, while strolling around the neighborhood, Ms. Duong accidentally discovered a broken chair across the street and a mother cat caring for two newborn kittens. Both the mother and her two kittens were very young, unable even to stand on their own, so Ms. Duong took them to a small tent in an empty field to care for them.

Being more cautious, Ms. Duong went to talk to her neighbors about letting the mother cat and her kittens stay there for a few days until they were stronger. Contrary to her good intentions, the neighbors were not very enthusiastic about having stray cats around the neighborhood, fearing the spread of disease, and even suggested dismantling the shelter. Faced with this situation, Ms. Duong had to build a makeshift shelter for the mother cat and her kittens using whatever materials she had available.

When Mrs. Duong visited the cats that morning, she was quite relieved to see them still behaving well in their “makeshift home.” However, about five or six hours later, when she returned with food, she discovered a heartbreaking scene: the mother cat was circling the bodies of her two kittens, wailing mournfully.

According to veterinary stations , Ms. Duong said: “I was truly shocked that just a few hours ago they were healthy, and now one cat has been cut in half, leaving only its head exposed, and the rest of its body has been taken elsewhere; the other cat has had its belly slashed open, with blood gushing out and its internal organs clearly visible. The cats are so young, they can’t even walk properly on their own. Who could be so heartless as to do this?”

A neighbor said, “At 10 a.m., when we were bringing our child home, we discovered the bodies of two dead kittens right here. However, the sight was so gruesome that my child and I didn’t dare go near. But I’m certain that the wounds were caused by someone stabbing and cutting open their bellies with a knife, and not an accident.”

According to veterinary clinics , local residents tried to remove the mother cat from the scene, but she remained stubbornly beside the bodies of her two kittens, meowing. People tried many things, even offering food, but the mother cat showed no interest all day. Faced with this situation, Ms. Duong had to find a place to bury the two unfortunate kittens. However, the mother cat clung to her kittens, licking their bodies affectionately until her final moments before Ms. Duong finally laid them to rest.

Even cats have feelings of love and affection for their offspring, a sentiment that has touched and saddened many. In response to the cruel act of the person who committed this crime, animal lovers’ associations have strongly condemned the individual who heartlessly killed the two kittens, which were only a few days old.
