Earlier, at around 10:18 PM on October 27th, a man poured kerosene and set fire to a backpack containing a cat on Nguyen Phuc Lai Street (Dong Da District). After causing the fire, the perpetrator quickly got into a vehicle and left the scene.
The entire incident was discovered after video footage extracted from a resident’s security camera was provided to the Hanoi Dog and Cat Rescue Station.

The cat inside the burning backpack struggled to escape the flames and ran straight into a nearby house with an open door.
Upon discovering the strange cat with burns, the homeowner helped put out the fire, wiped off some of the oil, calmed the cat down, and then called the rescue station.
The man said that when he arrived at the scene, the fire was still burning. Neighbors pitched in to help put out the blaze.
The Hanoi Dog and Cat Rescue Station, the unit that received and assisted the case, said that the cat’s long fur was singed and still had a lot of oil on it, so the veterinarian had shaved it off. The most severe burns were on both ears and all four paws.

“This is a breed of cat with straight ears. After the fire, both of its ears drooped down due to swelling and pus. In addition, Dilo kept shifting positions after sitting for a while because the skin on its paws was peeling off and causing pain,” a representative from the rescue station shared with Zing .
Besides physical injuries, the cat also suffered psychological trauma. Doctors have had to feed it porridge and provide intravenous fluids for the past few days.
Following the incident, the cat’s owner contacted the woman, asking to reclaim their pet. According to her, the cat, named Dilo, was a shared pet between her and her boyfriend. Due to relationship problems, her boyfriend had burned the cat alive.

Currently, the rescue center is refusing the girl’s request to ensure the cat’s safety and avoid future problems.
Zing has contacted the boyfriend but has not yet received a response.
The rescue center said that if the cat’s health improves, they will find a new caregiver for her in the near future.
At the same time, the rescue station identified a social media account showing signs of fraud, exploiting the situation for personal gain.
Taking advantage of the sympathy of the online community, this woman posted an article along with her personal bank account number, appealing for donations for the cat that was burned alive. The rescue station has denied any connection with this person.
